Protein woes

Image
Check-in for Maxine's Challenge begins tomorrow.  I need to go find a bathing suit and enlist my poor suffering daughter to take the "before" shots.  I'll post one here soon.  I'm looking forward to setting up my new nutrition and training plans.  Lockdown has meant swinging between the gym and home for workouts, I must say, I'm getting quite good at finding different exercises to replace those I would have done in the gym.  I think my most used search phrase this past week has been "home alternative exercise to...." I've just had a really yummy protein shake!  I've been trying to be consistent with my increased protein intake these past couple of months.  I must say, it really does make a difference when trying to lose weight and gain muscle.  I try to take in 2g per kilo bodyweight, at the moment that is 156g per day.  I find meeting my protein requirements to be the most tricky thing about nutrition.  I really struggle to take in that mu

Lockdown, but progress!

Photo by Alexas_Fotos on Unsplash  It has been nearly a month since I last posted.  The reason- there was not much change to report!  Actually, this isn't true.. I've lost nearly 10% of my body weight, but you can only just tell and I didn't want to post a whole lot of pics of myself looking the same.  Also, I've been so busy being a "Mum's taxi" and going to the gym 4 or 5 days a week.  Unfortunately, we're back in lockdown at the moment, and suddenly I have much more free time!   I suppose the other news is that I've signed up for Maxine's Challenge again.  This is something I do several times a year, though I've not finished one yet.  I keep joining because as a return challenger, I get a generous discount.  I'm quite positive I'll finish this challenge though, mainly because they've changed from a 12 week challenge to a 6 week.  I had my most successful challenge back in 2017, I didn't finish that one either because I w

Why does getting fit take so long to show on the outside?!!!

Photo by  Ryan Gagnon  on  Unsplash I started this blog and Instagram account because I wanted to use social media to keep a record of my progress.  I am progressing...not by much though, or that's how it feels. As much as I love Instagram, perhaps it isn't the right place for me right now.  Maybe Facebook is more my demographic.... I sense that Facebook is more for discussion and Instagram for showing results.  My glacial pace progress doesn't make for riveting images I'm afraid!  Despite that, I'm quite happy with how I'm travelling at the moment...I've lost 5cm off my waist and nearly 4.5kg in weight.  Perhaps one of the reasons my weightloss isn't happening as fast as it has previously, is that I'm in Perimenopause.  I really think it does make it more difficult to lose weight...but not impossible!  Consistency is key here.   I have been a chronic dieter in the past and like it is for many people, it wasn't sustainable.  I'm doing thing

Pee Pee

Cycling in the spare room Hmm, it's fair to say, perhaps I won't be blogging every day... I have definitely underestimated how much blogging time I have in a day.  The family and I are going to a party tonight.  Because of this rare occurrence, the dogs had to be walked this morning, then there was shopping, then cardio and abs, now blogging before racing off to get ready in the ten minutes I will have spare. Anyway, that's not what I wanted to talk about today.  You know, once upon a time, my passion was running.  I was absolutely rubbish at it, but it was blissful to take off several times a week and be completely alone.  I think any mother would understand this.  I don't run anymore though, partly because my ankles and feet are the worst affected joints from rheumatoid arthritis but also because of my....ahem.... "pee pee problem". I've had two kids, they've pretty much grown up now, but what I have left is an extremely weak bladder.  I really want

Fear of selfies.

Weight- 83.6kg Waist- 103cm   Notice I have not posted a selfie today.  Instead, here are two of my favourite buddies- Louie and Pepe.  What a couple of cuties!  About selfies though- I will post some here, I just need to get a little braver.  I have started a new Instagram account (  52f1t  ).  At the moment I'm just following some fit and lovely ladies.  I intend to post progress pics and other things there, because I figure, what better motivation than to declare to the world, that you have begun a transformation?  I mean, it would be super embarrassing to post my intentions and then have it fizzle out after a week and a half... I'm sure I'm not the only one that fears posting pics of themselves.  I didn't like it before, but now I REALLY don't like it.  I've been unwell for at least 3 years now, after all that time, sedentary behaviour and prednisilone use, I've been feeling bad about my body for a long time.  I tried being kind to myself, after all, it

So far so good.

Today's snack Weight- 84 kg Waist- 106cm. Well, I've joined the gym.  Seems like a good place to train- clean, friendly, lots of equipment, but NO HEATING!  It certainly gets me moving. I'm planning on posting my food diary and exercise logs here (Oh the shame!)  At least, when I get myself organised.  I have forgotten about that little task called "Time Management"  again.  The plan at this stage is to do a full-body circuit, 3 times a week for 4 weeks.  I'll see how my body is holding up, if it's going well, I will begin a 4 or 5 day split.  The temptation is to jump right back into my 5 day split that I was following 4 years ago, but I have to remind myself, I'm nearly 52 and having a chronic illness means I can't go as hard as I would like.  They are hard things to come to terms with.   One thing I've really noticed just over the past week is that, I still have joint pains...but I don't seem to notice them as much.  My range of motion i

Hi, my name is Deb.  My blog is called 52Fit because I will be 52 this year, I want to go from 50+ and unhealthy to- 52 and fit, however I am notoriously bad at being accountable to myself!  I'm hoping that posting these delightful (ahem, cough...) pictures of myself, food diary and exercise logs online will help me to stick to the plan. Let me tell you a little bit about myself... I've always enjoyed fitness activities, running, taekwondo and boxing. I've ridden bikes. I've been a swimmer, yogi and gym rat.  The last time I was fit was way back in 2017, when I did Maxine's Challenge and lost about 8kg and 20cm off my waist.  It's the fittest I've ever been...except I had a lot of injuries.  I just couldn't figure out why I was always in pain...my feet and ankles were sore and I had to stop running.  My hands and wrists were sore and I had to stop boxing.  Eventually, the shoulders, hips and neck joined the party- there was something wrong. The next two
